Medieval is a free interpretation of Fritz Helmuth Ehmcke's Mediaeval (Stempel, 1922). The challenge was to remain faithful to the original and its distinctive character — versatile serifs, strikingly tall ascenders, and a pronounced translation contrast — while distilling these qualities into something cleaner and more controlled.
